Our first Semifinal game from this past weekend saw one of CSL'S biggest rivalries continue to unfold between Glastonbury Celtic & HNK Croatia.

Game time temperature reached 90!
The first 45 both teams competed at a high level. Croatia was able to enter the halftime break up 1-0. The second half the depth of the home side showed. The Croatian side kept the ball & wore down Celtic. Croatia was able to finish 4 more opportunities ultimately earning them a spot in the CSL championship & avenging the sting from their last few playoff runs. Over the past 4 weeks HNK Croatia has been playing their best soccer of the year

The Second Semifinal game saw 10 goals between FSA FC & Newtown Pride FC. The first 20 minutes of the match FSA controlled all the run of play ultimately grabbing an early 1-0 lead. Newtown seemed to get settled in & leveled the score. With high temperatures & sloppy play teams were awarded a water break. FSA entered halftime up 2-1. Shortly into the second 45 Newtown leveled 2-2. Both teams had moments but neither had sustainable control of the match. FSA struck next & led briefly 3-2. Newtown dug deep & netted 3 consecutive goals giving the club and 5-3 lead. About the 80th minute FSA struck again and looked the fresher of the clubs. Newtown got loose on the counter & put the game away earning them a spot in the CSL championship game!

Offense was at a premium this weekend. In total between both semifinal matches 15 goals were recorded undoubtedly a CSL Record!

In the 29th minute "Daniel Amato" leveled the score 1-1 & Hartford had the better run of play until halftime. Very early in the second half Glastonbury attacker "Calo Tavares" put his side up 2-1.
The rest of the second half was on equal terms until the 82nd & 87th minute when "Cronin" struck two more times giving him a HAT-TRICK & putting the game out of reach for Hartford. Glastonbury has earned themselves a date with their biggest Rivals HNK Croatia. The history between these two clubs is second to none! With no love lost CSL soccer fans are sure to be treated to another epic chapter in this heated rivalry!
The second Semifinal wasn't lacking any fireworks between FSA & Polonia. Anyone who has followed CSL the last few seasons know that both clubs get a little extra motivation when playing against one another.
From the opening whistle this game didn't disappoint ! Both clubs came out very physical & looked to take control of the game. Polonia started the game with the better run of play but shortly after FSA settled in & found their rhythm. In the 33rd minute "Kzas Kazimeiclak" of Polonia put the home side in control with a composed finish. With a light rain & all the Polonia supporters engaged it looked like FSA would have to overcome alot. FSA managed to weather the surge & get to Half-time down 1-0. The second half was even more physical. In the 52nd minute "Patrick Plourde" was able to get FSA level at 1-1. FSA looked to control the middle of the pitch while Polonia attacked the flanks. In the 60th minute temperatures boiled over in the middle of the pitch. Unfortunately for the home side
"Polonia Falcon" the head referee issued "Demar Mesquita" a red card after a FSA foul & skirmish.
In the final 30 minutes FSA created multiple opportunities only to be denied in the final 3rd by great goalkeeping & a stingy Polonia defense.
The game looked destined for two 15 minute overtime periods when FSA finally broke through with the winning goal in the 89th minute setting up a Semifinal date with regular season champions Newtown Pride FC. FSA & Newtown have played some of the most entertaining & exciting soccer the CSL has to offer . CSL "GOAL OF THE YEAR" nominee came during the epic 3-3 draw in the fall. All the clubs know what's at stake! Top spot in Connecticut's top league! CSL1947 2017 edition!
